The Theater at Madison Square Garden was at its 5,500 capacity hours before the panel started. Many diehard Walking Dead fans arrived in the early morning for the queue line to vie for the choicest seats. I arrived shortly before the 2:00 PM Marvel Television Presents: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel. I would have loved to have gotten there earlier and acquired a closer seat, but I was covering the 12:30 PM STARZ Original Series Ash vs Evil Dead panel at the Hammerstein Ballroom a few blocks away. By 5:30 PM, the theater was full, and there was a very long line outside to get in.

Chris Hardwick returned this year as moderator.

The capacity audience roared with cheers and welcomes as Chris Hardwick returned as this year’s panel moderator. It’s just not a complete Walking Dead panel without Hardwick, and the crowd was truly grateful and happy for his return after his absence in 2016. The adulation continued as Hardwick introduced creator Robert Krirkman, followed by the producers, and then the cast.

For Walking Dead television fans, there is no greater fan experience than being at the New York Comic Con panel surrounded by 5,499 other fans of the show. You get to see some of your favorite actors, hear their thoughts on the direction of the series, and can even ask the cast and creative team questions. This is truly the biggest and most coveted event NYCC has every year. It was also one of the most exciting I have attended in recent years.
