Guns of Old and New and More Than Expected at Ford’s Firearms
by Mike Garman
Love it or hate it the reality show Sons of Guns was very popular and for me pretty entertaining, I first met some of the cast at the SEMA show several years ago and since then I have gotten to be friends with several of the cast of characters. Unless you’ve been living in a cave you know what happened to the television show and why it was taken off the air. I’m not going to dwell on that but I am going to talk about two of my favorite people Kris and Stephanie (Hayden) Ford. I recently met with Kris and Stephanie and discussed their plans going forward.
While no longer involved with Red Jacket Firearms, the Fords have landed on their feet and they have a new product called Iron Ink. This is a product of their company IAC WarGames, which is a decal set for your firearm that can enhance its appearance and is not permanent like cerakote or hydro dipping. Shown here on my G22 and Tara’s G26 it is really a pretty cool idea.
They have also gone into business with Kris’s father and have a store called Ford’s Firearms, located at 4415 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd., Suite C, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This is not your average gun store. Kris called it a gun boutique with hardwood floors, indirect lighting, and more what you’d expect from a high end jewelry store in New York City than a gun store in Louisiana. They specialize in rare and collectible firearms and carry a wide range of modern weapons such as Glocks, AR and AK variants as well as the 1911. However, they also offer products from Tactical Walls including helping with installation. If you are not familiar with Tactical Walls go check them out, I have the tissue box sitting on my desk.
In addition to what you’d expect in a well stocked gun store, they also have a Class III Federal Firearms License, which means that they can offer the discerning customer National Firearms Act weapons such as a suppressor.
Looking at the pictures on the website they have an amazing selection of firearms such as an 1866 Winchester, an 1860 Colt Navy revolver, Desert Eagles and the SPAS 12 shotgun that Arnold made famous in the Terminator. Then they have a weapon that I have lusted after for years but have never been able to afford, the Heckler & Koch SL8. This is the civilian version of the Heckler & Koch G36.
If all of this wasn’t enough Kris told me that they will be doing some gunsmithing, probably not to the level of craziness that they did for the TV show but Stephanie said that they know people for anything they can’t handle.
So regardless of what you might have thought about the television show or the other events, Kris and Stephanie are avid gun people and very knowledgeable about all types of firearms. They are active on Stephanie Ford on Twitter and Ford’s on Facebook, and recently started a YouTube channel. If you are ever in Baton Rouge, stop by Ford’s Firearms and say hi.
