Zombie Education Alliance | Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1 review

Will Strand’s wayward crew have what it takes to survive their ocean voyage?

Season 2, Ep. 01 – ‘Monster’ | Aired April 10, 2016

The episode began with Travis, Madison, and their blended family along with Daniel Salazar and his daughter, escaping the chaos and destruction of a burning California landscape and setting off on Strand’s yacht. By morning they come across a raft overloaded with survivors, and as usual bleeding heart Madison (Kim Dickens) wants to stop and pick them up. Strand (Colman Domingo) has to remind him that they are guests on HIS boat and there will not be any helping. Travis (Cliff Curtis) agrees with Strand, because they don’t know if the raft survivors are ill with plaque or have ill intentions, and they have to protect their own family.

However, none of this matters to Alicia (Alycia Debman-Carey), who has made radio contact with supposedly three survivors whose boat is taking on water. She attempts to convince Strand to help, but he refuses for fear it could be a ruse and he is right.

Zombie Education Alliance | Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1 review

With exception to the last few minutes of the show, where the group came across a field of destroyed boats and a few water logged zombies, ‘Monster’ was high on drama between squabbling characters, giving us only one tidbit (ocean marauders) to push the story forward. There was also nothing knew revealed about the survivor group that we did not already know, ie: Madison and Alicia are bleeding hearts, the Salazars are true survivors and Strand is hiding something from the group.

Overall, this was a less impressive season opener, almost as uninteresting as the pilot, and I have yet to find a character within the family groups that I want to see survive. As of now, I’m on the Victor Strand boat. There’s something he’s hiding and I’m interested to find out what. As for the rest, maybe they’ll be eating by zombie sharks. No, not this show that would be Z Nation.

Summary : Little reward for the season 2 premiere, which follows an uninteresting and barely likable dysfunctional Los Angeles family who has escaped the zombie apocalypse aboard a yacht owned by a secretive man named Victor Starnd. Episode 'Monster' is not a promising start to the second season ofFear the Walking Dead.
